Get A Room: The Andaman, a Luxury Collection Resort

For me, a journey to wellness is best enjoyed amidst nature, and The Andaman’s idyllic location within a 10-million-year-old rainforest overlooking Langkawi’s shimmering Datai Bay, certainly offers a blissful sojourn.

This resort under The Luxury Collection not only offers plush suites and flawless service, but also an impressive menu under its V Integrated Wellness (VIW) programme. Excited at the prospect of indulgent spa treatments, I had almost forgotten that wellness is as much about the inside as it is about the outside. But, I was soon reminded of this fact.

At my illuminating consultation session with the resort’s resident Yoga Master, Shree Ram, I was made aware of the uneven waves of my heartbeat, as the emWave® machine read my heart-brain interaction and autonomic nervous system. To address this, I was prescribed jala neti kunjal, a traditional Indian nasal rinse technique, as well as gentle yoga by the beach. Later, mind clearer and heart at peace, I headed to the V Botanical Spa for a relaxing spa escape with the lullaby of the rainforest providing a soothing background track. My pampering session began with shiro abhyanga, an Ayurveda massage that focuses on the head, neck, and shoulder, followed by barut gamat awet muda, where my body was covered in gamat (sea cucumber) scrub and my head lathered with a coconut oil and aloe vera concoction.

But the treatment didn’t end there; after rinsing off under the outdoor rainshower, I experienced chi nei tsang, a Taoist abdominal massage. My therapist touched certain points on my stomach, correctly pointed out the issues in my personal life that needed working on, and applied deep strokes to unwind the knots inside. I was amazed by the accuracy of how body pains tell a lot about our life, but had little time to contemplate this wonder, as the last treatment – traditional Malay urut (massage) – began. This local technique that uses long strokes with the thumb along the back, legs, and arms, lulled me to sleep, and when I came to after my siesta, I felt fully recharged.

That night, I slipped into the comfort of a coma-inducing king-sized bed inside my Executive Pool Suite, which not only boasted indoor and outdoor living areas, but also an open bathroom complete with double vanities and a stately white bathtub in the middle. The view upon waking up was nothing short of heavenly. The greenery and the beach outside beckoned me, but the private plunge pool just a few steps away from the foot of my bed proved too inviting.

Later, I enjoyed a long, quiet walk along the golden sands of Datai Bay, taking in the beauty of sparkling blue waters and the lush trees enveloping the land. Indeed, The Andaman offers a rejuvenating and enriching stay that has the potential to transform one, inside and out.

The Restaurant, one of The Andaman’s six F&B outlets, offers a tantalising selection under its Healthy Cuisine menu. Start with Green Tea Noodles or Chilled Gazpacho as appetisers, and go for Char-grilled Tenderloin Steak, Steamed Ginger-Scented Sea Bass, or Harissa-Marinated Tofu as a main dish.
